GI Joe needed a way to get to the front lines of the war, so in 1965 the "GI Joe Official Jeep Combat Set" was issued. It consisted of a Willy's style Jeep (7000 five star) with a trailer, searchlight & 106 mm tripod-mounted recoiless rifle with four rounds of ammo. This same Jeep was made up until 1972 in different configurations. The most popular of these being the Desert Patrol from 1967 that replace the 106mm with a machine gun like on the favorite "Rat Patrol" television show.

The first issued Jeeps came with a"Moto-Rev" noisemaker powered by two "D" cell batteries under the hood (see below left & center). This was only around for a short time, the batteries remained for a few years but they just powered the searchlight (see below right), and the noismaker was now storage.
